Nephrology is the branch of Internal Medicine that deals with diseases typical of the kidney, including the systemic manifestations of chronic diseases like diabetes mellitus and arterial hypertension. Due to multiple kidney functions, it is one of the more complex branches of Internal Medicine and therefore needs careful management of the patients with kidney diseases. The more important symptoms of renal diseases are sometimes difficult to distinguish, but are mainly associated with fluid retention and urinary alterations. The more complex cases require management with systems known as dialysis, and the possibility to offer a kidney transplant in some cases.
