Neurology is a medical specialty that diagnoses and treats illnesses of both the Central Nervous System (brain, cerebellum, spinal medulla) and the Peripheral Nervous System (peripheral nerves). In the first group of illnesses can be found headaches, mainly migraines, as well as other disorders like Parkinson’s disease, migraines, epilepsy, cerebral vascular illnesses (known as strokes), motion disorders, cerebral tumors, and other syndromes which are covered by neuropsychiatry. In the second group are found syndromes of neuropathic pain (sciatic nerve, tunnel carpal syndrome). Procedures include: lumbar punctures, neurophysical studies (electroencephalography), evocated potentials, infiltrations in painful syndromes, applications of botulinum toxin (in motion disorders).
