Our professionals recommend the vaccine to prevent Influenza

San José, Costa Rica. March 2021.

Vacuna de la influenza

The Clínica Bíblica Hospital offers the vaccine against influenza type A and B, also known as the seasonal flu. This flu occurs mainly between the months of April and September in countries like Costa Rica, according to Dr. Esteban Zavaleta, pharmacist of the Hospital.

The vaccine is greatly important for the populations most at risk from the virus that spreads this flu.

These populations are especially young children, pregnant women and the elderly. Also vulnerable are people with chronic or respiratory conditions who may suffer complications when infected.

Influenza can cause a variety of respiratory symptoms and related illnesses. Although most people recover from influenza without medical attention, some vulnerable groups of people do require additional prevention with the vaccine.

Therefore, it is advisable to get vaccinated at the beginning of the rainy season in order to protect both ourselves and our loved ones.

The Influenza vaccine works by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies. In turn, these antibodies help the body fight the flu virus strains present in the vaccine.

It is important to consider:

Although the influenza vaccine is very safe, it is advisable to let health care personnel know about your history of allergies and if you have a fever or any infection or illness.

Another very important recommendation, since we are in the process of vaccination against COVID-19, is that the COVID-19 vaccine and the influenza vaccine be administered at least 14 days apart.
