Guides all phases of management toward efficiency and best practices, from clarity of leadership responsibilities to critical processes in organizational management or strategic planning.

4. It is an important improvement tool for the organization:

The process of preparation for accreditation constitutes an excellent horizon for the development of the institution. It represents a common improvement project for managers and professionals that is a catalyst for internal changes.

5. It offers international recognition of the care provided by the hospital:

Accreditation by the Joint Commission International publicly demonstrates that the health care center meets the quality requirements of the most technically competent institution in the sector. This accreditation is an indisputable recognition of international prestige.

Chapters for Patient-Centered Standards

1. International Patient Safety Goals (IPSG). The standards governing this section promote adherence to good patient safety practices focused on healthcare, describing solutions based on evidence and expert knowledge.

2. Accessibility and Continuity of Care (ACC). The focus of this chapter is on continuity of care for patients, meeting their needs during their stay and providing the follow up plan once they are discharged or their outpatient care ends.

3. Patient-centered care (PCC). The primary value of this chapter is based on understanding, respecting and protecting the cultural, religious and/or beliefs of patients and their families, informing them of their rights and duties and obtaining timely consent during the health care process. All of the above focused on promoting a positive patient experience during their stay.

4. Assessment of patient (AOP). Its practice allows the collection of key information to meet the real needs of the patient, from the first contact in the organization, until their discharge, passing through each of the relevant moments that require it.

5. Care of patients (COP). This chapter describes the basis for the provision of care according to the needs of each patient, in order to provide the most appropriate care in a safe environment with timely and quality planning and coordination.

6. Anesthesia and Surgical Care (ASC). This chapter highlights the importance of patient assessment prior to surgery or invasive procedures, anesthesia planning (from total anesthesia to moderate or deep sedation) and care during and after surgery applicable to both inpatient and outpatient procedures.

7. Medication Management and Utilization (MMU). This chapter covers the system and processes, which the organization employs to properly administer pharmacotherapies to patients.

8. Quality improvement and patient safety (QPS). This is the focus on day-to-day clinical and management activities, with the aim of informing the opportunities for improvement that arise and keeping the risk of becoming intolerable to a minimum.

9. Infection Prevention and Control (IPC). This chapter focuses on the organizational responsibility to identify and reduce the risk of infection within the institution by implementing policies and procedures, as well as educating staff, patients and families.

10. Governance, Leadership and Direction (GLD). This chapter focuses on the interest of excellent patient care, which requires effective leadership from many sources within an organization.

11. Facility Management and Safety (FMS). The focus of this chapter encompasses the provision of safe, functional and supportive facilities for patients, families, staff and visitors, with effective management of the physical facility, medical equipment and people.

12. Staff Qualifications and Education (SQE). This chapter addresses staffing in response to patient care needs and recommendations from department and service leaders, whose recruitment is best achieved through a coordinated, efficient and uniform process.

13. Management of information (MOI). It is to ensure the quality assurance of the information to be transmitted, to maintain optimal quality requirements in each of the delivery of information to the community, patients and between professionals of the organization.
